Uruguay (pt. 4 - Montevideo)
After a few hours of sleep, we woke up, had some toast, and headed out into the city to meet Fede. On Sundays, there is a huge fair in the center of the city, that Fede said was extremely interesting - and once we got there I had to agree! The first booth was a stand with puppies and kitties for sale for $100URU ($5USD), which had obviously been taken from the street; McDonald’s happy meal toys; used clothing; used tools; fruit and veggies; books; stamp collections: basically anything and everything you could possibly think of. We had a great time wandering around and taking it all in. I bought a laundry hamper :)
After we met Brett and Grandma in Puerta Vieja - the oldest part of the city. The streets were pretty empty, as it was the weekend, so it was perfect for just slowly wandering through. We even caught a graduation celebration - where they throw eggs, flour, and beer on the graduates for good luck. Inside puerto viejo, we chose a parilla, and let the experts do the ordering (Fede and Caro). I got to taste intestine, shortbread, ribs, shortribs, steak, and a bit of grilled shrimp on the side. I tasted everything - but I’ll stick to the traditional steak, thank you!
Fede told us a lot of great stories about living in Dubai, and showed us his alcohol licence - the right to drink in the city, as it is a Muslim country.
Afterward, we went to the beach and passed out for a few hours, as it was really hot, and we were more than stuffed!
