Speakeasys in Buenos Aires
For Irving’s birthday, we got dressed up, gathered some friends, and told him where we were taking him was a secret.
And a secret it was indeed. Frank’s Bar is one of about 7 bars throughout Buenos Aires [more here] which are coming into fashion. In true speakeasy style, you have to make a reservation ahead of time. When you do so, they give you a password. The bar is located in Palermo on a quiet street. There are virtually no markings that indicate it as anything but just a regular door.
You knock, then are let into a little corridor where you tell the bouncer the password. Then you enter it into the phone booth, and the back of it opens into a dimly lit hallway.
The first thing on the right is a sex shop, just for in case you are truly feeling secret.
The bar itself is very pretty, with low twinkling lights, high ceilings, tiffany lamps, velvet couches, and an attractive bar. The drinks are wonderful conctions (your typical manhattans as well as some interesting creations). They apparently just started serving food, and anything that has to do with potatoes is delicious.
It was a great time, with some great people!
