My first asado - pt. 1
Vegetarians - beware! Thou art not welcome in this feast!
On 15 November, I posted the following on my wall
“Which Argentinian will invite me to my first asado? Anyone? Anyone?”
Which was soon amended to:
* Which person in Argentina will invite me to my first asado?
Within hours, I had three invites, but I only had room for one, and the cards all fell in right for Cristian’s house - in Flores. After some of the most complicated travel (pick Mike up in Palermo, pick Daniel and Pierre up in Almagro, pass by our house and take 3 different subways), we arrived to Flores and walked the few blocks to Cristian’s.
I had been warned that it was unfortunate, but this would be the best asado I would ever have in Argentina, so every one would suck from then on. Lets just say: 6 hours of pure gluttony, including green salad, potato salad, chimi churri, hot sauce, beef, pork, ribs, shish kebab, and a lot of wine - I was fat, and I was happy!
Cristian and his mom cooked the whole thing (except for a tense 5 minute period when the fat caught on fire, and they had 3 gringos trying to fix it). You could tell they were pros, and they were super gracious and inviting the whole time.
