Biking Buenos Aires South Tour
Every Monday is my day off. I don’t have to teach English, and I don’t have to go out because it’s a weekend. So I usually try to take advantage by doing some activity that will take a few hours.
This past Monday, it just so happened that Brett was giving a South tour. She invited me to go, and I happily agreed! The tour starts in San Telmo and goes through Parque Lezama. It then goes to the Boca Juniors soccer stadium, to the port of La Boca, to Puerto Madero where you get to eat a bondiola, and through the parks there, to Plaza de Mayo for a maté, and finally to Plaza Dorego before finishing up back where we started.
We walked to San Telmo, and I helped her get the bikes ready for the tour. We put sunscreen on our noses and lips and got ready for a day in the sun. At one point while we were waiting, a man came by and parked his motorcycle right next to our bikes without saying anything. Then he went around the corner. Thought it made a pretty funny picture next to the two bicycles.
Our clients were a couple from Toronto who were very comfortable on bikes, and very interested in much of what we had to say. They were also interested not just in the historical aspects of Buenos Aires, but also in the nightlife and culinary aspects - something I could gladly contribute to.
Brett has fully adopted her position as a senior tour guide - and she is very knowledgeable and has the perfect tone when giving tours. I think she is a great guide for people from North America. She is someone who can give many facts on history and population, and at the same time provide thoughtful commentary on what it is like to actually live there. I only think she is going to get better and better as time goes on!
Stay tuned for some of the sights, smells and sounds we saw on the South tour!
